Commercial Evaluations

Find 5 different commercials on any online source (YouTube, Veoh, anything that can be linked). Link them on the blog and write a paragraph for each, analyzing them.

What is the visual style of the film (animated, live action, stop motion)?
What is the tone (happy, sad, scary, funny)?
What is the product they're selling?
Who is their Target Audience?
What is the 'problem' that the product is solving?
How does the commercial talk about these problems?
Is there a Narrator? If so, is the narrator a voice over (off screen) or a character on screen?
Do you feel that the commercial is successful? Why?

Icelandic Vodka commecial
The commercial is animated around one person doing live action. The tone is funny and happy. They are selling vodka and targeting anyone who drinks alcohol. Mostly adults. The product is solving the need for good plain vodka. She talks about it with a funny accent and an almost cute way. The narrator is a character on the screen talking. I think the commercial is very funny. The use of the real person and the animated background really ads to the video.

Ray Lewis Old Spice Commercial
This commercial is live action and animated. The tone is serious and funny. They are selling Old spice deodorant. The target audience would be any age guys. It is solving the problem of odor and sweat. It tooks about these problems in a funny way. The narrator is the main character Ray Lewis he is on screen in every shot. I definately think this commercial is successful because it is unique, funny, and entertaining.

Panda Plus Animation

I've been playing with the pandas from illustrator and im not sure if i want to use them or just use photographs. I think it might look more professional and better. I'm struggling with making the panda the same and different in every frame. I plan on trying this but maybe also trying some other options with photographs

Panda looking in mirror naked without black fur. Then puts on his black sweatshirt.

A panda bursting out of his clothes. Takes them off and puts on clothes from Panda Plus that fit.

Panda Plus Letterhead

I kept the letter head simple. Kept the Panda Logo and same text as the business card. Added to lines below and above the text to make it stand out.

Panda Plus Business Card

For my business card I wanted to keep it simple and clean. I wanted to incorporate the Panda colors of black and white with a hint of color. The green is the same throughout. I used a fun font and took away my original text in my logo. I put the panda on both pages since he reduces pretty well on the back. I also thought the black line was simple and professional looking.

Corporate Identity Questionare

Corporate Identity Questionaire

Corporate Identity Questionaire (Due 10/17)
Half of the success of a Corporate Identity project is knowing the company/brand.How do you talk about something you don’t know anything about? Take a look at McDonalds, for example. What do they do? They sell food. What kind of food? Cheap food. What kind of cheap food? American food that people can buy and with little to no wait – they can even drive right up and take their food to go. They’re kid friendly. They have cartoonish mascots (Ronald, Hamburglar) and have happy meals. Their colors are bright and bold primary colors (red and yellow).

1) What is your business?
A clothing company.

2) Describe your business in one sentence
We make environmentally friendly comfortable usable clothes for plus sizes.

3) Who is your target audience?
My target audience is teens and young adults that need plus sizes.

4) Who are your competitors?
There aren't to many competitors but companies like alternative apparel are one of them which uses recycled fabrics. Torrid also makes plus size trendy clothing.

5) What makes them better/worse than your product/service?
Ex: Skaters Choice Skate Shop site doesn’t work right now. SPoT Skate Shop sells shoes, clothes and skateboards, nothing for regular skates. Skate America’s site is currently being redone so all you can do is sign up for their email listing. None of these are ideal for buying skates, skate parts or customizing skates online.

Not many companies specialize in plus size clothing. There aren't very many trendy cool clothing for this audience of people. Alot of the population is overweight now and the need will probably keep growing. I think my panda logo is a cute appeal to consumers along with the eco-friendly draw that is popular. Unlike Torrid Panda Plus offers simple clothing like tees, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and jeans. Every day essentials. I think Torrid's audience is more for going out party kind of clothes.

6) Do you currently have an identity? (This is more for companies that are already established  and you’re just revamping the logo/corporate identity. If you have a new company or product, skip this question.)

7) (If your answer to #6 is no, skip this question) What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it?

8) How do you want your image to be seen in two years?
I want people to feel comfortable wearing these clothes. They should be a basic in anyones wardrobe. It should be seen as a reliable brand that is cool and usable.

9) If your company was an animal, what animal would it be and why?
A panda because they are chubby cute and fun.

10) If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?
It would be someone who is environmentally friendly and down to earth. Not so concerned with fashion and energetic.

11) If your company/brand was an object, what would it be?
It would be someone's favorite worn in soft sweatshirt.

12) If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?
I guess Homer from the Simpsons, or Meg from family guy. People who are funny and not the trendiest people concerned with how they look all the time.

Lyrical Collage

I decided to do a bulletin board incorporating pictures and objects like the one I have in my room. I used regular pictures and added shadows to make them seem like they stood out from the cork board. After I put the pictures on I thought that they looked unrealistic without a way of sticking them on the cork board. So I decided to add things which would normally hold pictures up. I cut out pictures of things like tacks, tape, pins, and a ticket to give it the 3D feel. I also added shadows and texture to these objects to give depth. I used alot of stuff which represented my hometown, Florida, and my family and friends. I used the lyrics from James Taylor's song You've Got a Friend.

Panda Plus Logo

For my design I wanted to keep it simple and clean. The logos that I remember the best are simple and mostly one or two colors. Simple cartoon animal logos like Hello Kitty, WWF, or Puma were my inspiration. The design was a plain with just the black and white so I added the green bamboo to give it an earthy feeling. I think it is fun and welcoming. It would also downsize easily for a logo on clothes.

Natty Boh Logo Critique

This is the National Bohemian Beer Logo. They are on their drink products and apparel. I like the design because of the simplicity. Although it can be confused with the pringle logo. I like the logo because it is cute and playful. I also like the use of just one color. Black feels strong against the white background. It is also funny with its mustache and haircut. He has a very old fashion and classic feeling. It is definitely intended for adults who drink.

Under Armour Logo Critique

This is the Under Armour Logo. They make sports and performance apparel. The Logo is simple clean design. This logo is intended for any athlete of any sport. It is definitely more intended for adults. The shape is simple yet sophisticated with its mirrored image. Most of their logos are only one color. The black feels strong against a white background. The logo gives me the impression it is only for serious athletes. The font feels strong with the use of capitals letters. I like the spacing of the text and the boldness of the font.

Converse Logo Critique

This is the Converse All Star Logo. I think they only make shoes. The logo is simple and old fashion. It feels friendly and welcoming to me. Anyone can wear their products. The stitching in the logo, cursive and plain font give the logo and retro look. This logo is intended for anyone, all ages. The colors red, white, and blue give the logo a patriotic feel. This logo also feels classic or timeless.

Hello Kitty Logo Critique

This is the Hello Kitty Logo. They sell almost anything with their logo on it. This logo is fun, cute, and playful. it is a cute cartoon cat with a bow. I think it is intended for little girls, but almost all age women love it. I like the simple logo almost as if a kid has drawn it. The red or sometimes pink bow gives it a hint of color. I think its simplicity gives it it's effectiveness.

Puma Logo Critique

This logo is for Puma. They sell activewear and shoes ect. The logo makes me feel active and fun. It has a Puma making an athletic jump over the name. It comes in many different colors but in this particular logo its green which reminds me of health or natural things. Pumas of course are athletic powerful animals which increases the power of the name. Its designed for men and women not particularly for kids. I like the font and the strength of the capital letters.
